GANGWON-DO < invest Korea

(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) On May 17, Daemyung Leisure Industry Co. signed with Chuncheon City to install an aerial lift (ropeway) to Samak Mountain in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon Province.

Based on the agreement, Daemyung will invest the entire KRW 50 billion needed for the project, donate the facilities to the city upon completion, and own the operating rights for the first 20 years, as was promised in the memorandum of understanding the two parties signed on April 20.

Daemyung plans to attract 500,000 passengers to ride the aerial lift each year, about 10 percent of the annual 5 million who visit the Daemyung Vivaldi Park in nearby Hongcheon.

Accordingly, the city expects over 1.27 million to use the 3.6km-long aerial lift, the longest ropeway in Korea to date. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.

The new aerial lift will serve as a key facility in the Uiam Lake Triangle Tourism Belt project as well as the nearby Lego Land Korea, currently being built on Jung-do Island.
