(LOSANGELES=Yonhap News) A comics exhibition is to take place in Los Angeles next week to promote and wish for the successful hosting of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, organizers said Friday.

Hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles and the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency (KOMACON), the special exhibition opens next Wednesday at the art gallery inside the center. Manhwa is the Korean term for comics.

The exhibition, set to run through March 18, will show 40 cartoon prints and eight web-based comics with themes based on the history and visions of the PyeongChang Olympics and Gangwon Province where the host city is located.

The center said the show is designed to draw support for and interest in the global sports event, the first Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea. The PyeongChang Winter Olympics take place from Feb. 9-25.

On the opening day, popular artist Kim Jung-gi will show his signature live drawing performance.
