According to Yonhap News,
(SEOUL=Yonhap News) Samsung SDS Co. will build a new data center in Chuncheon, 85 kilometers east of Seoul, the company said Tuesday, in an effort to strengthen its cloud computing business.
The company, an IT service affiliate of Samsung Group, said it held a groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the day for the facility, set to be completed during the second half of 2019.
The 39,780-square-meter center will incorporate the environmentally friendly and highly efficient data storage systems that will be necessary to provide services in artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data.
"It will be an eco-friendly center that can bring about best performance and will allow the company to compete in the cloud computing market," said CEO Hong Won-pyo.
Samsung SDS, which manages data storage servers for the group's affiliates, currently operates four other data centers in the country.
