(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) Gangwon-do will cooperate with large corporations to build a Smart Farm Innovation Valley as the region's new growth engine.
The valley is part of the national government's projects.
The point is to create high-tech agriculture core hubs that fit regional characteristics through production integration, training experts and innovating technology by utilizing information and communication technology (ICT).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will invest KRW 18 million into the project from 2019 to 2022, and will designate a total of 4 innovation valleys throughout Korea.
The province and Chuncheon city will link the smart farm innovation valley project with the ongoing Hydrothermal energy fusion cluster project.
By constructing a low-cost energy system that transforms the cold water of the Soyang Dam into hydrothermal energy, it can reduce the cooling cost of the smart farm innovation valley.
The plan is to build an incubator center, substantiation complex and an enterprise complex on a 268,000㎡ plot.
Gangwon University will take part in running the incubator center, and 30 companies including KIST Gangneung and Cheorwon Plasma Research Institute will cooperate to establish the substantiation complex.
To support youth workers in the smart farm, LH established public housing, the Gangwon Creative Innovation Center will support startups in the field of ICT and IoT and the Gangwon Agricultural Cooperative Federation will take charge of the export and distribution of agricultural products coming from the smart farm.
The province will sign a business agreement with Chuncheon City and Gangwon University on July 9, and submit a business plan to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on July 13.
