On July 11, Gangwon-do and the Gangwon regional branch of the Korean Federation of SMEs (K Biz) will hold the 2018 Invitational Purchasing Fair for Large Distributors.

The province and K Biz first held in 2017 in order to establish a two-way communication channel between regional SMEs and large distributors to create a market for regional goods and increase the competitiveness of the SMEs.

Participating in this year's event are 12 MDs from large distributors and 42 regional companies to take part in 1 on 1 consulations.

The 12 MDs are from department stores, home shopping malls, online malls and major supermarkets. The 42 participating regional companies are those that have been selected through a preliminary public contest that sell foods, household goods and more.

The MDs will consult the companies on procedures for entering distribution centers, product improvement requirements and marketing strategies.

In order to diversify the consultation venues for regional companies having a hard time finding distributors, the province held a purchase consultation meeting in Wonju in April earlier this year and will hold another one in Chuncheon, then Gangneung in October.

In 2017, a total of 102 companies participated in two rounds of consultations totaling 241 cases. This year, 41 companies participated in the first round of consultations at Wonju, which resulted in 144 cases.
