(HWACHEON=Yonhap News) Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do announced on August 13 that it will operate Agricultural Processing Support Center from next month for the stable production of agricultural products.

At the Processing Support Center in the agricultural industrial complex in Woncheon-ri, Hanam-myeon, is built with budget of KRW 700 million by the County and it has facilities that can process about 50 kinds of agricultural products, including 25 kinds of wet products and 18 kinds of dry products.

The start-up farms producing processed food can each process agricultural products at the Center and produce pills, tea, powder, granules, juice and jam.

The establishment of the Center was the measure for resolving unstable income situations of the farms, for example, due to the recent price crash of green pumpkin, the producers had to discard their pumpkins.

The price of agricultural products fluctuates widely based on the weather and time, so producing various kinds of processed food will bring greater added value than the original product.

In particular, the "tomato laver" which was processed using tomato from Hwacheon was officially supplied as the local products during the PyeongChang Olympic Games.

After a pilot operation, the Center will begin its actual operation as early as next month.

Hwacheon-gun will also focus on the support for processing seasoned vegetables.

It will increase distribution facilities in the region and expand direct dealing with stores in major cities.

"Producing quality agricultral products is important, but now is the time we think how we can accept reasonable price," said Choi Mun-sun, the governor of the county, adding, "We hope that creating added value through processing will help the income of the farms continuously and directly."
