(DONGHAE=Yonhap News) Donghae City of Gangwon Province actively attracts winter field training to revitalize local economy.

According to Donghae City on December 31, 2018, a total of 85 teams including 49 Judo teams, 13 baseball teams, 12 soccer teams, and 11 athletics teams will visit the city in 2019 to do field training during January and February.

The city serves as a popular winter training place because it has a higher winter temperature compared to other regions, and has a sports infrastructure, restaurants and lodging facilities that can accommodate a large number of athletes.

The city plans to hold 3 international competitions including the East Asian International Judo Competition and 32 nationwide and provincial sports competitions.

The city had 28 competitions including the 2018 Asia Women's Hockey Champions Trophy Tournament, and attracted 126 teams coming for field training such as the national Judo team, which brought the city an economic impact of KRW 26.6 billion.

The city provides supports to the teams such as the reduction of fees for the use of sports facilities and for the admission of sightseeing spots.

The Mayor of Donghae City said, "Based on aggressive marketing and active administrative support, we will attract various international sports competitions and sports teams wanting to do field training, which will boost the local economy and raise the city's status as a premium sports city."
