SNOW FESTIVAL in Gangwon province to continue

(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) "Snow festival", the Olympic legacy festival targeting foreigners in the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is unfolding in Gangwon-do.

"Global Youth Leaders GoGo Pyeongchang Festival" is to be held in Gangneung, Pyeongchang, Jeongsun, and Goseong on February 14-17.

As the first project of the year of interchanges (2019-2020) by the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum(EATOF), established under the leadership of Gangwon-do in 2000, 500 university students and delegations from 10 member states participate in Olympic Legacy, DMZ, and Arirang experiences.

Starting from the EATOF global campaign declaration ceremony at Arirang center in Jeongseon on February 14, they are scheduled to experience Jeongseon Arirang performance, course, sky-walk tour, curling, Goseong DMZ tour, and other Olympic and peace-related issues.

An event about SLED DOGS, emerging as an extreme winter sports, will be taking place as well. About 500 professionals and foreign travelers will have a chance to experience lessons, EDM club party, and curling with 10 SLED DOGS champions at Pyeongchang skiing venue on February 16-17.

Also, media outlets from three Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia are invited to cover the province's tourism products and produce promotional contents.

To widely promote Snow Festival, the Olympic legacy festival, Korea Tourism Organization also jointly the forces.

It will visit Pyeongchang, Gangneung, Samcheok, Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Yanggu, and Inje to film the Olympic legacy and new tourism resources, promoting Gangwon-do's charm to Southeast Asia where snowfalls are rare.

A provincial official said "For tourists from Southeast Asian countries where snow is rare , Gangwon's snow is something like a special gift. We will further develop it as a major tourism contents, which also can be used for market expansion to East Asia and America".
