(WONJU=Yonhap News) On June 7, Wonju city announced that Wonju Techno Valley has been selected as "2019 Si, Gun, Gu Regional Innovation System (RIS)" organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

The System is to support manufacturing of prototype, technology training, design improvement, marketing, and testing analysis and verification to discover and foster regional industries and promote continued growth of regional SMEs.

By May 2022, KRW 1.8 billion is to be invested, jointly carried out by Wonju Medical Industry Techno Valley (WMIT) and PPURI Center of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) .

Based on voluntary cooperation with regional medical device and PPUTI industry companies, they will support technology development and commercialization.

WMIT is planned to support manufacturing of prototype, certification support through such means as consulting and testing, and participation in international exhibition or business meetings.

Wonju PPURI Center of KITECH will support manufacturing of prototype utilizing metal 3D printer, etc., and advancement of products such as production process and fault control.

By doing so, Wonju city expects to strengthen the competitiveness of technology and production process of medical device companies, and advance the basis for regional medical device industries.
