(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) Chuncheon-city, Gangwon-province, which has been pushing for "Special Movie City", begins construction of movie studios and sets in earnest.

On June 13, Chuncheon-si announced that it will invest KRW 5 billion in building 2 filming studio buildings and 1 open set building.

As Namyangju Studios, used by movie producers frequently, recently moved down to Busan, the city sees increasing needs for quality studios near the capital area.

Chuncheon-si has been carrying out projects to be recognized as a special movie city, establishing a culture and contents department responsible for media industry in October last year, and promulgating ordinances stating the cultivation of media industry.

The city also endeavors to create an atmosphere conducive to its project by signing agreements supporting movie production and running a theater visiting culturally isolated villages.

Chuncheon mayor also visited Korean Film Council(KFOIC) in Seoul to brief the status of media industry and its project implementation, and had discussion on studios it is building.

An official from Chuncheon city said, "We are going to push for the establishment of movie studios in conjunction with Gangwon province to create a special movie city," adding that "We endeavor to become a movie city, and also a culture city, in cooperation with KFOIC."
