According to Yonhap News,
(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News)
Chuncheon-si of Gangwon-do is to launch a program to invest KRW 600 million in creating cultural space in Yaksa-dong by February 2020 and utilizing various contents.
This is implemented as it won the public competition "2019 cultural urban regeneration program" by the government.
For start, "Teomuni Creation Lab" of one-story building in the area of 35 square meters will be built in Yaksa-dong.
An abandoned and unoccupied house will be remodeled for reinvention into a new space with cultural value.
It will host a workshop for local artists, residents and visitors.
A "cultural social dining" program will be run as well in which local residents come together at restaurant or outdoor place to plan an event.
There will be other projects as well, such as turning a vacated house into a gallery and create diverse art works.
Chuncheon-si expects that old downtown, where redevelopment was cancelled, can find a renewed vitality through urban regeneration project.
