According to Yonhap News,

HONGCHEON, Oct. 3 (Yonhap) -- Hongcheon Ginseng & Myeongpum Festival, the autumn festival that represents Hongcheon-gun of Gangwon-do, celebrated the grand opening on Oct. 3 at Tori Forest in Hongcheon-eup.

The Ginseng and Hanu Myeongpum Festival that had been hosted in the previous years with ginseng and hanu (Korean beef) as the main themes was transformed this year into a festival showcasing the region’s ginseng and other agricultural and specialty products.

The festival will continue through Oct. 6.

The festival was launched with an opening ceremony after Typhoon MITAG had passed through the Hongcheon region without wreaking serious havoc. The opening ceremony was held in a moderate scale due to the recent spread of African swine fever.

At the ceremony, participants cut a rice cake in celebration of the Festival, shared rice cooked with six-year-old ginseng in an iron pot and tried making tadpole noodles. During the festival, local specialty products including Korean beef, rice, pine nuts, pumpkins, apples, omija and blueberries as well as six-year-old ginseng are displayed and marketed at the venue.

At 3pm each day, an event called “10,000 won of Happiness” invites visitors to take home the bones of Hongcheon beef for cooking. A wide variety of events including folk game zone, Korean beef self-served restaurant and other markets and ginseng auctions will attract visitors.

Hongcheon Guitar Festival, Hongcheongang River Singing Contest, a music concert featuring high-profile singers and a puppet show will also be staged. On Oct. 4 and 5, fold game events including a tug-of-war and demonstration of a ssireum (Korean traditional wrestling) team will be held at Hongcheon Market operated for the revitalization of the local economy.

A night market will also be opened on the riverside of Hongcheongang River to add excitement to the Festival for visitors. “Although farmers are suffering due to the recent spread of swine fever and other factors, we have prepared the festival to share the premium agricultural products, all harvested with painstaking efforts,” said Jeon Myeong-jun, the president of Hongcheon Culture Foundation. “We hope visitors enjoy trying six-year-old Hongcheon ginseng and our premium specialty agricultural products and make special memories."
