Ganwon will increase residential income utilizing cultural and tourism Olympics

According to Yonhap News,

 

Gangwon Province said Feb. 6 that it will put on the list of priority increasing residential income through development of new cultural and tourism contents and establishment of infrastructures for cultural and tourism Olympics.

 

The province decided to invest 193.2 billion KRW in 50 businesses in 9 sectors of tourism and marketing with the ambitious vision of making the region Northeast Asia's resort hub by attracting 110 million tourists, including 1.65 million foreigners.

 

To achieve the ambitious goal, Gangwon will establish necessary infrastructures for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, develop eco-friendly tourism program reflecting its own unique characteristics, aggressively attract foreign tourists, enhance promotion of national and provincial parks and make its airports more accessible and convenient to use.

 

In addition, it will invest 94.6 billion KRW in cultural and art sector to realize its goal of making Gangwon the global cultural powerhouse. It also plans to establish cultural facilities for residents, create its own cultural identity and develop cultural and art assets reflecting the identity.

 

Gangwon is planning to classify its region into five tourism and Olympic special zone: cultural and resort zone; exhibition and convention zone; Mt. Seolak and ocean zone; traditional cultural zone; ocean and leisure zone.

 

Gangwon will create cultural contents by establishing cultural clusters, developing Olympic cultural program and organizing art and sculpture Biennale, and secure cultural promotion and development fund.

 

Kim Nam-su, director of environment, tourism and culture in Gangwon, said, "We continue to support cultural activities and policy in preparation for cultural Olympics," adding that "We especially concentrate our energy on realizing our goal of attracting 110 million tourists, which will eventually lead to increasing residential income."
