According to Yonhap News,

Gangwon Province announced on May 17 that the local authorities run a pilot test to see if the municipal smart city project, forming a consolidated platform where security camera data are collected and managed, well performs.

Once implemented, each municipality’s video footage captured by nearly 1,400 security cameras spread across the communities will be automatically transmitted to the unified control tower, which manages and shares the recording data to the local judiciary and nearby military camps to well protect public safety and prevent against crimes.

With KRW 3.8 billion in total (partly from national budget of a KRW 2.7 billion), the province set another plan to further advance smart city technology- securing golden hours once any form of accident occurs, developing suspicious vehicle tracking mechanism and quick response to natural or man made disasters.

The plan also include guidelines for protection protocols for the vulnerable group of people such as seniors or children as part of community crime prevention efforts by sharing information on GPS ankle monitors.
