Wonju city, Gangwon Province, announced on May 8 that the local authorities’ project was finally selected as part of the national 2021 “smart” programs, designed to build out the industry base to further innovate, develop and diversify local economy by making full use of community resources and capabilities.

A KRW 8.6 billion worth of the municipal project, chosen by the trade ministry, is reported to come to an end by the year 2023, forming multi-agency partnership among Wonju Medical Industry Techno valley, Gangneung Wonju National University’s business affiliate university sponsorship program, Korea Testing Laboratory and KITECH.

The project helps build out technology base to develop testing grounds where wearables, bio-patch products or biometric data readers are piloted, believed to be the path towards digital healthcare system. It also adds consulting or training programs to support medical businesses in the community.
