Gangwon Province announced Sunday that it will promote clean generation of advanced plasma power to develop the mining areas to become regions of new energy.

The project produces electricity, high-performance glass and ceramic materials from coal wastes produced from the mining industry.

It is a part of hydrogen generation, a future energy source in preparation for the depletion of fossil fuels.

Beginning with an information session on establishment of an advanced plasma power plant and era of new energy, Gangwon Province will begin the development.

The province introduced project overview, its direction and expected results and also shared its measures to establish an energy cluster in stages.

It has requested next year’s national budget of KRW 6.9 billion for the project.

Gangwon will also collaborate with Green Science, a startup of the National Fusion Research Institute of Korea which the province signed an agreement last February.

Based on economic and environmental verification of the advanced plasma power generation with coal and gas, the province plans to supply the power to Samchuk, Yeongwol and Jeongseon backed by the national budget to support new and renewable energy project.
