Gangwon Province, Wonju city and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia agreed to hold the 2015 IBF general assembly in Wonju.

Under an agreement, participating agencies will mutually cooperate for a successful assembly and the province and city will provide administrative and financial support.

An organizing committee for the 2015 IBF general assembly will be organized and operated by the IBF and the committee will be in charge of planning, operation and management of the event.

Korea was named to host the 2015 general assembly last May, and IBF Asia and Wonju agreed to hold in in the city last July.

The 2015 IBF general assembly is one of the largest international boxing meetings, drawing about 400 participants from 50 countries around the world.

IBF official programs and current issues will be discussed and boxing games will also be held.

Events will be held from this year until beginning of the general assembly and IBF insiders from about 50 countries are expected to visit Gangwon Province.

Korea is the first country in Asia to hold the general assembly which was held in the United States and European countries.

The IBF is headquartered in New Jersey, and is one of world’s three boxing federations with the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association.

Gangwon plans to help IBF officials from each country to understand and promote the 2018 Winter Olympics, facilitating their visits as opportunities to promote.

A provincial official noted that the IBF general assembly will help to facilitate boxing in Korea and contribute to regional economy, adding that the province will endeavor to prepare for the event and promote the province.
