Gangown Province announced last week that it will reinforce its marketing activities to attract Chinese visitors during Chinese national holidays from October 1 to October 7.

The province aims to attract 13,000 visitors, which the number is increased by 20 percent from last year’s 10,700.

Currently the number of reservations at accommodations in the province is close to 5,100.

To attract more Chinese visitors, the province will use outdoor advertising at 30 subway stations in Shanghai from September 21 to September 28. Also Gangwon Province’s SNS reporters which consist of Chinese students will promote the province on Weibo.

Tourist destinations where many Chinese tourists visit will put up banners and provide promotional materials to welcome Chinese tourists.

The province will also act to respond to changes in the Chinese tourism market.

To eliminate Chinese tourists’ food and language difficulties, seven stores will develop menus in languages other than Korean as a pilot project this year and the project will be expanded to about 70 stores next year.

Gangwon Province will also develop and distribute information booklets in Chinese to attract individual tourists.

In addition, to improve quality of low-priced tourism products, the province will promote new policies including a certification for excellent products in Gangwon.

With these marketing strategies, the province plans to create new demands in the Chinese market and attract more than 600,000 visitors from China.

Shin Man-hee, head of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, noted that the province will keep an eye on changes in the tourism market due to increased number of individual tourists and focus on attracting more Chinese visitors through various marketing strategies.
