(SOKCHO = Newsis) Sokcho was ranked the second in the survey carried out to investigate the level of business’s satisfaction of the administrative services provided by the municipal governments in the non-capital regions.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) carried out the survey of 4,000 manufacturers that established or expanded the plants in non-capital regions in the last three years. Sokcho received the grade of 70.8 out of 100 in the survey to be ranked the second in the nation for the second consecutive years, and was named a great province for business and investment.

The city was praised for the following matters: development of the maritime fisheries specialized complex (Daepo 2nd and 3rd agro-industrial complex), “One-stop corporate counseling operation, efforts to create jobs and support working environment and improvement municipal legislations.

“We struggled to continue the business in other regions despite the help from other municipal governments, so we decided to move to Sokcho. The business conditions have improved as we were able to build our plant with HACCT certification support and received acquisition and local tax incentives,” said an official of a company moved into Sokcho in the late 2011.

The official also explained that the company decided to move into the complex because it had confidence in staffs of municipal government. The staffs quickly resolved the difficulties and fully explained the incentives and revenue generation process, according to the company official.

“We focused on creating a good business environment to foster and develop processed sea food as the local strategic specialized products,” said an official of Sokcho. “We will work hard to attract more investment.” Meanwhile, two more cities in the Gangwon Province other than Sokcho were on the top 10 in the survey. Hoengseong and Gangneung received the grade of 66.7 and 66.4 respectively and took 4th and 6th place.
