Gangwon to Invest KRW 2.955 Tn in Maritime Industry

(GANGNEUNG = Newsis) Gangwon Province (Gangwon) announced on January 4 that it will invest a total of KRW 2.955 trillion in 180 projects in a bid to develop its maritime industry.

The figure rose 65 percent from the last year.

There are 163 project (KRW 1.156 trillion) led by the province, 16 national projects (KRW 63.4 billion) and one projects led by the private investment.

In marine transport industry, the province will invest KRW 29.4 billion and in the development Donghae Port, Sokcho Port and Jumunjin Port, and KRW 1.165 trillion in Hosan Port in Samcheok, which will be opened in May.

In marine tourism industry, the province will invest KRW 14.4 billion to vitalize the bathing resort, marine sports and develop a leisure area in the undersea park, Simgok marine terrace and sea coast forest.

The province will also invest a total of KRW 22.5 billion in the projects including development of the specialized industry for the production of the Japanese sea cucumber, coastal pasture projects and mass farming of coldsea fishes.

A total of KRW 23 billion will be invested in the projects including the construction of distribution centers and development of strategies to globalize the marine products in a bid to enhance the competitiveness of distribution and processing industries.

Gangwon will also invest KRW 4.3 billion in the development projects of the local fishery ports and maintenance of the existing fishing villages and ports. It plans to invest KRW 15.5 billion to construct Jumunjin general welfare hall and support its local residents in various ways including the support of accident compensation.

Gangwon plans to invest KRW 4 billion to develop the nation’s best inland fish farms and relevant ecosystems by the restoration of the Korean trout and other projects.

Lastly, the province will invest KRW 2.5 billion to foster marine experts, hold Korea-Japan marine seminar and support female marine workers in a bid to enhance competitiveness of the maritime industry.
