Samcheok to Invest KRW 8.7 Bn for Ocean & Fisheries Industry

(SAMCHEOK = Newsis) The city of Samcheok in the Gangwon Province will invest a total of KRW 8.7 billion in 62 different projects in a bid to enhance the competitiveness of its ocean & fisheries industry.

The city announced on January 7 that it will invest KRW 2.8 billion in the development project of the small-sized fishing ports, dredging works in the ports that suffered the mudslide and development of marine forest. It will also invest KRW 2.3 billion to support to release the fry, autonomous management fishing and construction of cultivation facilities to foster sustainable fishing industry.

It plans an investment of KRW 1.86 billion to provide fishermen with fishery tax-free oil, and support biodegradable fishing gear development project and modernization of fishing boats.

The city will invest KRW 390 million in development of infrastructure for distribution and improvements of the value of marine products, and KRW 220 million to develop the marine tourism infrastructure. It also plans to invest KRW 80 million for the conservation of fishery resources and establishment of advanced fisheries order, and KRW 13 million for the development of marine tourism industry within the region.

Furthermore, a total of KRW one billion will be invested in the restoration project for coastal erosion, maintenance of the seawater inlet pipes as well as the restoration of the sea coast forest and coastal dune.

“The city plans to concentrate its efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime industry, promote various projects to improve the income of fishermen and develop infrastructure to vitalize the marine tourism industry,” said an official of Samcheok.
