According to Yonhap News,

Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province attracted a KRW 76.4 billion worth of investment to form a special leisure town in a vacant space near Galmal agro-industry complex. The local government and three entities signed an investment deal on Jul 14 under the shared goal to form a tourism hub for recreation and well-being.

The plan outlines construction projects to establish facilities to boost local tourism industry, making full use of unique resources found only in Cheorwon which encompass existing legacy, DMZ and hot springs. Plus, it also contains plans to give a new look to the old, barren agro-industry complex by setting up exhibition centers, therapy shops where visitors can experience oriental medicine, spa and remedial treatment and a leisure town, lined with shopping centers, hotels and souvenir shops. The provincial authority forecast that the project creates effect on production inducement worth KRW 220 billion, bringing a KRW 119 billion added-value and 660 new jobs to the community. Cheorwon-gun, grappling with staving off the coronavirus led ramifications, is particularly anticipated to take the role of a major tourism hub near cross-border regions with a full of attractions.

`Whether the community can successfully become the gentrification role model to other communities remain to be seen as the project is the first of its kind across the country to transform itself from agro-intensive economy to tourism service to make added-value brought to the region as great as possible.
