According to Yonhap News,

(CHUNCHEON = Yonhap News) Gangwon-do will kick off its individual development plan specialized for its local industries.

The province announced on March 3 that it will receive support from the government for its individual development plan and invest a total of KRW 35.3 billion in the individual development business project by 2019.

The project is to keep pace with the plan of the Ministry of Employment and Labor to raise the nation’s employment rate to 70 percent.

The government will form the human resources development committees for 14 different regions and conduct job market research, provide joint job trainings and establish an individual development system that focuses on helping the people find employment opportunities.

Gangwon organized its provincial human resources development committee in 2013 and carried out a demand survey mainly on the province’s strategic industries. In November, it established an action plan for fostering 2,600 workers for the province’s telecommunication, electric and machinery equipment industries.

The province plans to designate Korea Polytechnics and the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry Kangwon Human Resources Development Institute (KHRDI) as joint training partners, and conclude an agreement that contains details about the training procedures and support fund.

Job seekers will receive a 240-hour professional training session for up to three months. Employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can take part in vocational skills improvement training session for one or two weeks.

“By fostering workers that possess educational backgrounds and skills for the province’s strategic industries, the province expects to resolve the employment mismatch and strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs,” said an official of the KHRDI.

Meanwhile, the joint training partner organizations will receive support of KRW 35.3 billion for development of infrastructure and operation of training sessions for six years. The annual limit is up to KRW six billion.
