Enterprises in Gangwon Seek Opportunity to Export to Islamic World

(CHUNCHEON = NEWSIS) The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), the world’s second-largest investment forum will be held at Alpensia Resort in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province to help enterprises in the region seek opportunities to export to the Islamic world.

Gangwon Provincial Office will hold a WIEF Invest Roundtable Session at the resort in December this year, in which the provincial office is expected to help local businesses push into global market and make efforts to attract more investment and foreign tourists to the province ,with presence of chief executive officers (CEOs) of global corporations, financial companies and experts.

At the session, three keynote presentations and discussions for helping local enterprises enter into global market and expanding foreign investment to the province are to be held. Export and investment consulting services will also be available at the venue.

Participants in the session will first discuss ways to invigorate agriculture, stockbreeding, fishing and food industries in the province, to boost local export capacity through halal certification system and secondly to revitalize the tourism industry in the region through foreign investment.

Lastly, the participants will discuss how to attract more foreign investments in real estate and tourism facilities in Gangwon and the consulting session will also be taken place at the same time.

Now that the province has largely focus on export to the Islamic world through halal certification system, it will help local companies advance into the Islamic market which is home to 1.8 billion people and the large-scale(USD 2 trillion) consumption market.

In preparation for the success of the session, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the province and the forum will be reached at the provincial government building on May 7 with presence of Tun Musa bin Hitam, a former deputy prime minister of Malaysia and the chairman of WIFE foundation and Malaysian Ambassador to Korea Binti Ramli.

“The province plans to use this opportunity to solidify Gangwon’s place as a city for international conference and make great efforts to help local companies to advance into the Islamic market.”said a provincial official.
