East Coast Free Economic Zone invites overseas corporations to invest in the area

(DONGHAE=Yonhap News) East Coast Free Economic Zone Authority is hosting a presentation seminar, where 54 CEOs of 32 corporations from overseas will participate.

This seminar will take place from May 28 to 30 in Donghae City, with an aim of providing customized explanation to meet the needs of corporations, thereby inducing their investment. To this end, the city has invited overseas corporations that have been showing high degree of interest in investing in the zone.

A variety of different corporations showed their interest in the 4 districts within the zone. A working level meeting will be held in the Donghae Bukpyung ICI District to attract 7-8 corporations from Japan and the U.S., as well as U.S. corporations in Korea.

Korean corporations in overseas especially showed a great deal of interest in the East Sea Marine Tourism & Leisure District. Detailed discussion on investment & development with Dundee corporation of Canada is underway, and it is expected to lead to tangible outcome by June-July this year.

Domestic corporations, as well as those from China and the U.S., have been keen on the Gangneung Gujeong Carbon Zero City, and are enthusiastic about its development project. The Gangneung Okgye District is planning to concentrate on discovering corporations that are willing to take part in direct development of the district, focusing on Japanese corporations.

“We have been setting up continuous investor network among individual corporations willing to invest, under a systematic management system. We are confident to see substantive outcome at the second half of this year”, said an official from East Coast Free Economic Zone Authority.

In February this year, the Korean government designated four districts of Gangneung & Donghae area((1.82㎢) as the Economic Free Zone.
