(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) According to Chuncheon City on November 4, the number of tourists reached 8.34 million (a 1.6 percent increase) up to the third quarter of 2014 and the number of foreign tourists increase by 50 percent.

The total number of tourists up to the third quarter showed an average growth but the number of foreign tourists soared by 47.4 percent, becoming the new force that drives the tourism industry in Chuncheon.

The city estimates that the number of foreign tourists will reach a million this year. The lake tourism belt project including the establishment of the Lego Land will lay the foundation for the city to become an international tourism city.

"The increase number of foreign tourists is due to the marketing activities to attract Chinese and large-scale tourists and expansion of amenities, " said a city official.
