(CHUNCHEON=NEWSIS)Gangwon Province will establish a nano-bio technology industry cluster that has been promoted as its strategic industry.

According to the province on December 1, the nano-bio technology industry cluster has passed the deliberation of preliminary feasibility by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance on November 28.

A total of KRW 135.4 billion will be invested in the establishment of the nano-bio cluster for five years from 2016 to 2020 based on bio technology, medical devices, new material, plasma technology and industrial ecosystem.

Gangwon plans to establish a new growth engine industry cluster of bio and high nano technology by building a nano-bio comprehensive support center and an immune system research center.

The province will increase research and development investment in bio industry to develop core technology, which will become the foundation for products including nano medical products, medical devices, cosmetics and functional products.

The project plan will be finalized in May or June after several deliberations by the Korea Institute of Science & technology Evaluation and Planning.
