(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) Gangwon Province announced February 23 that it will build a virtuous cycle of wealth and economy through direct welfare.

The province aims to continuously expand welfare investment to create economic demand and realize the happiness of the people by maximizing the efficiency of welfare delivery.

The province has allocated KRW 1.27 trillion for welfare, a 28% of the budget for 2015, and plans to expand it to 33% by 2018.

The province will establish an integrated delivery system for health and welfare to remove the welfare blind spot and prevent suicides.

Considering its high percentage of aged people, the province will also ensure the lives of the aged by creating 17,322 jobs for the elderly in 2015 and 20,000 by 2018.

The province will also provide support for the underprivileged class, women, North Korean refugees, multicultural families and the disabled people.

"We will focus on realizing a welfare society that ensures a pleasant living environment for the underprivileged class," said a provincial official.
