(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) A leisure sports festival kicked off in this provincial city east of Seoul Friday, organizers said.

The 4th edition of the Chuncheon Leisure Sports Festival will run until Aug. 9 at several venues near the Songam Leports Town in Chuncheon, 85 kilometers northeast of Seoul, with participants of some 1,600 athletes.

Official matches will begin on Saturday with preliminary rounds of flying disc and action sports at the Songam Leports Town.

The leisure festival, consisting of 11 events in four sports, as well as military survival games and the Korea Dance Festival.

The military survival game, which will be held in private and team events, is a mock battle with a total of 420 participants.

There will be 370 participants in the flying disc event and 280 in action sports, where they will ride skateboards and BMX, a form of extreme biking.

The IDO Korea Dance Festival, which will be held during the weekend, will be divided into Latin and street dance. A total of 500 people have registered.

Aside from the games and contests, this year's event offers a variety of programs for visitors to enjoy.

DJ dance party, flying disc and a survival gear exhibition will be available for citizens to participate in at the festival.

Diverse recreations, including outdoor swimming pool, yachting and kayaking will also be provided near the event zone at a discounted price.
