According to Yonhap News,

Locally grown asparagus harvested in Gangwon Province has been sent overseas for sale for the first time this year. Gangwondo Agricultural Research and Extension Services (GARE) and Gangwon Asparagus Association (GAA) has hosted a ceremony in celebration of its first shipment of Gangwon asparagus on Apr 6.

Asparagus is part of the province’s main cash crops, whose export volume has soared to 25.6 tons in 2019 from 1 tons in 2014. Since the pandemic-induced recession, however, the amount has plunged to 6.5 tons last year.

In order to help the local economy rebound with vigor, GARE has provided a package of farm biz-support projects which entail farm technology counseling or marketing services to further expand sales channels overseas. Under such programs, GARE is planning to drive up the shipment volume to 20 tons over the next four months by the end of July this year.
