Taebaek city to build a KRW 42 bln cluster of the forest industry

Taebaek-si, Gangwon Province, has been selected for The Regionally Balanced New Deal's additional project, organized jointly by the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development and the Balanced Regional Development Committee of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Taebak-si applied with a project, aiming to build a cluster of the forest industry by exploiting forest resources in the abandoned mining area.

The total expense is expected to be KRW 42 billion including national budget of KRW 29 billion, which will be used to utilize the forest resources in the abandoned mining area by applying cutting-edge forest technologies.

The city's mayor said, "It is expected to create new jobs and increase incomes of local residents, as well as mark a pre-emptive response to the government's 2050 carbon neutrality strategy."
