Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do said on August 4 that it has been selected for a project to create smart green city, organized by the Ministry of Environment.

The smart green city creation project is to establish a regional resilience to respond do climate changes such as temperature rise, precipitation change, an increase in fine dust, drought and reduce physical and property damage to residents.

Yanggu-gun is set to push for this project under the name of Gangwon ecological peace climate resilience belt creation project, in cooperation with Gangwon-do, Chulwon, Hwacheon, Inje, and Goseong-gun from this month to the end of the next year.

For the project, the gun plans to invest a total of KRW 2 billion over the next 2 years (KRW 600 million this year, KRW 1.4 billion next year) to build a comprehensive water resources facilities, AWS urban air quality measurement, and environmental and climate information notice facilities, among others.

The comprehensive water resources facilities are to preserve at least 1000 tons of water including groundwater and rainfall to respond to changes in precipitation and drought, which will be installed in Yanggu arboretum.

AWS urban quality measurement network is to measure environmental factors causing damage to the human body, including fine dust and harmful substance in the air, which will be installed in two places.
