According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News)Gangwon-do and SK joined hands to create an ecosystem for all areas of the liquefied hydrogen industry.

Gangwon-do and SK signed an MOU on September 13 at the provincial government's office to 'create an ecosystem for the entire life cycle of liquid hydrogen and to foster and support the hydrogen industry'.

The two sides agreed to join forces to successfully push for the establishment of an ecosystem across all stages of the liquid hydrogen industry, including production, distribution, and consumption, and to realize the 2050 carbon neutrality through liquid hydrogen.

Also, they agreed to cooperate on the creation of an ecosystem of eco-friendly transportation such as liquid hydrogen-based mobility and the successful hosting of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games.

This MOU is meaningful as it is likely to generate greater linkage effects with the liquid hydrogen industry that Gangwon-do is intensively fostering.

SK plans to invest about KRW 18 trillion over the next five years to lead environmental, social and governance (ESG) management and create a hydrogen ecosystem.

It will also induce demand for transportation and charging utilizing the liquid hydrogen industry, and cooperate for localization of related parts and equipment.

Through investments in development of eco-friendly transportation including special-purpose drones and cooperation on the infrastructure investment, local governments and a large business are committed to jointly fulfilling social responsibility for the environment.

An official from the provincial government said, "With SK, we will jointly generate jobs and promote mutual interest of the region, while realizing regional balanced development and building Gangwon-style ecosystem of high-tech industries."
