Wonju-si, Gangwon-do announced on October 25 that it will hold a demonstration ceremony for a special drone free zone demonstration project at the Wonju Archery Field at 3 pm on October 26.

In February this year, Wonju-si was selected as the only special drone free zone in Gangwon-do, in three locations including Wonjucheon Stream, Maeji Reservoir, and Wonju Archery Field, as designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

On July 29, an announcement was made to allow operation of the special drone free zone. Business operators can get special regulatory exceptions for five items, including test flight permission and safety certification. They are able to go ahead with demonstration projects for commercialization of aircraft.

During the ceremony, there will be demonstrations of logistics delivery, forest fire monitoring, and quarantine using aircraft manufactured by participating companies. It will resolve questions about the drone industry, to which citizens are unfamiliar with, and raise expectations for the possibility of commercialization and utilization of drones, which is expected to lead the future 4th industry.

In the special drone free zone, commercialization tests and services for technological advancement will continue by the end of next month.
