According to Yonhap News,

To attract a national artificial sun research complex, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do is set to foster related industries in earnest, starting with a research agreement with universities.

Chuncheon-si signed an MOU with Kyunghee University at the city hall on November 22, for cooperation in supporting R&D for commercialization of artificial sun and joint promotion of national public projects.

The artificial sun is in the limelight as an energy that will lead the future industrial market as a large-scale eco-friendly renewable energy applying nuclear fusion technology.

Chuncheon-si established an industrial-academic cooperation system for artificial sun together with Gangwon-do and 14 related organizations in May.

First, they will set up a commercialization research group to secure key technology capabilities by carrying out research projects in four areas including materials and parts, modeling simulation, plasma, and robotics by 2024.

Kyung Hee University will conduct R&D in the modeling and simulation area, and Chuncheon-si will provide administrative and financial support.

An official from Chuncheon-si said, "we will make investment in earnest starting from next year in the data industry, high-tech new materials, parts, and equipment industry with a goal of fostering the artificial sun industry."
