According to Yonhap News,

Gangwon-do, Chuncheon-si, and Daesin Construction Consortium joined hands to build an eco-friendly data center using deep water of Soyanggang Dam.

Gangwon-do held an MOU ceremony for successful implementation of hydrothermal energy convergence cluster, attended by Governor of Gangwon-do, Mayor of Chuncheon-si, and officials from Daesin Construction Consortium.

Gangwon's Governor said, "Fostering the data industry through eco-friendly energy is to secure Gangwon-do's future growth engine," adding "we will not spare any support to ensure investing companies and the local community grow together."

Chuncheon's mayor also pledged "we will lay the foundation for future industries by building a data center using Chuncheon's abundant eco-friendly resources, water resources, and take the leading role in becoming sustainable city."

Daesin Construction, Daesin E&D, Korea Investment & Securities, KORAMCO, and SK REIT are participating in the Daesin Construction Consortium.

The Gangwon hydrothermal energy convergence cluster is to be built in Dong-myeon area of Chuncheon-si with the goal of construction completion in 2027.

This site will receive 240,000 tons of deep water per day from Soyanggang Dam with a water temperature being 6 to 13 degrees.

The facility size is to be 16,500 tons (RT. Refrigeration Ton), more than 5 times of that of Lotte World Tower, the largest scale in Korea to date.

It will have data center clusters, data industry convergence valley, smart agricultural complex, and eco-friendly residential complex based on demand for hydrothermal energy.

The Gangwon hydrothermal energy convergence cluster completed a preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance last year, and was designated as a leading investment district by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March, this year, and basic and working design are underway.
