Wonju-si to build Intelligent transportation system with KRW 4bln

Wonju City announced on December 10 that it will complete the intelligent transportation system (ITS) construction project in 2021 to install advanced transportation infrastructure facilities on major roads in the city and start operation from January next year.

The ITS construction is a project to find out the optimal sign cycle by analyzing the level of congestion in the intersection, and provides the collected traffic information to drivers to make roads safer and more convenient for use.

Previously, the city was selected for a public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, putting KRW 4 billion of total project budget into installing 13 traffic control CCTVs, 6 video detectors, 15 smart intersections, 15 left turn response signals, 3 traffic information provision systems on the roads.

In addition, it replaced 60 units of 2010 standard signal controllers and established the transportation information center software and hardware.

The city has already secured KRW 2 billion as next year's project budget through MOLIT's public contest project.
