Gangwon Province and the cement industry joined hands on March 11 to push for a joint cooperative project for realization of carbon neutrality.

Gangwon-do and four cement companies, including Ssangyong C&E, held a 'MOU signing ceremony for joint cooperative projects to realize carbon neutrality in the cement industry' at Gangwon Provincial Office.

The event was attended by Gangwon's governor, CEO of Ssangyong C&E, CEO of Sampyo Cement, CEO of Halla Cement, CEO of Hanil Hyundai Cement , and president of Gangwon Technopark.

The province and cement industry are determined to invest KRW 200 million this year to discover a demonstration business model for promotion of joint cooperation projects, and to carry out them in earnest from next year.

In addition, they are committed to cooperation such as operation of a consultative body for exchange of information, technology, and human resources in order to accelerate the carbon neutrality of the cement industry.

The cement industry is said to account for more than 50% of the province's greenhouse gas emissions.
