Pyeongchang-gun step up efforts to foster the green bio industry ecosystem

Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do announced on April 4 that it will sign an MOU with 11 industry, academia, research and public institutions to cultivate a green bio industry ecosystem.

The parties to the MOU include Gangwon-do, Gangwon Technopark, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University Green Bio Science and Technology Research Institute, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Natural Products Research Institute, Chuncheon Bio Industry Foundation, Center for Creative Economy Innovation (CCEI) Gangwon, Research Institute for Gangwon, Gangwon Agricultural Food Venture Startup Center, Shinhan Bank Gangwon Office, among others.

In order to secure a growth engine for the green bio industry, these organizations agreed to cooperate on working towards ecosystem projects and supporting establishment of start-ups, and jointly holding international conferences and academic conferences.

Gangwon-do and Pyeongchang-gun failed in a location selection competition for the Green Bio Venture Campus hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs last year.

Since then, they have checked on the development direction of the green bio industry converged with IT and BT related technologies, focusing on the five promising green bio industries, and the current status of the green bio industry.

In addition, they are making efforts to prepare for projects, such as devising a plan for construction a green bio venture campus.
