According to Yonhap News,

The Gangwon office of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Gangwon-do held a briefing session for domestic data center officials at the KEPCO Art Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on May 26, with an aim to attract data centers to Gangwon-do.

Since March, the two organizations have been collaborating to establish a stable electricity supply plan and promote support policies to attract large-scale data centers to the K-CLOUD PARK, which will be built in Chuncheon.

Park Chang-gi, head of KEPCO's Gangwon office, highlighted that when the power load, currently oversaturated in the metropolitan area, is relocated to a provincial area, individual companies can benefit from tax incentives as well as contribute to balanced national development through efficient power facilities investment.

According to KEPCO, the data centers consume lots of electricity, and it is rapidly growing at an average annual rate of 15% led by the 4th industrial revolution.

Currently, more than 60% of data centers are located in the metropolitan area. In addition, more than 90% of companies pushing for new projects are planning to move in the metropolitan area, short of power supply, so KEPCO is encouraging them to be dispersed throughout the nation.
