According to Yonhap News,

Chungcheon-si, Gangwon State, is going to foster the bio-national high-tech strategic industry specialized complex, which the city has been pushing forward with Hongcheon-gun, as the 'Korean version of Boston Bio Cluster'.

On July 18, Chuncheon's mayor held a press conference at the City Hall and said, "we will create a cluster that brings bio-companies together in specialized complexes, and is capable of R&D, supply of raw materials, mass production, and exports of finished products. To this end, we will enhance cooperation projects with related organizations and universities as well as efforts to attract companies."

In other words, the city will take the Boston Bio Cluster, where MIT, Harvard University, various companies and research centers, hospitals, and institutions are gathered, as its model for developing its specialized complex.

He said that "as the bio-specialized complex is able to provide benefits to tenant companies such as tax reduction, rapid processing of licensing, export market development, and state-funded R&D budget, it gives a boost to creating the cluster."

The city will run a task force in the second half of this year, together with Gangwon State, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Technopark, Chuncheon Bio Industry Promotion Agency, and Scripps Korea Antibody Institute.

The city plans to develop new AI drugs and create production base for small and medium sized biopharmaceuticals CDMO in the long run.

With the creation of the specialized complex, the city expects the economic ripple effect of KRW 5.9 trillion, added-value inducement of KRW 2.5 trillion, and employment inducement of 30,000 people.
