According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Cargo traffic at coastal ports in Jeju surged thanks largely to construction boom.

Jeju announced that cargo volume at its two coastal ports climbed 12.3% to 1,275,000 ton in the first of this year from last year's 1,135,000 ton.

Voulme of inbound traffic was 1.16 million ton, up 26.5% year-on-year.

Among them, volume of construction supplies including cement and sand increased 43.1% from 586,000 ton to 839,000 ton, and volume of miscellaneous goods almost doubled.

Volume of fertilizer saw more than five-fold increase from 27,000 ton to almost 40,000 ton whereas that of stock feed experienced 31% decline from 197,000 ton to 136,000 ton.

Outbound cargo almost halved from 218,000 ton to 115,000 ton as volume of tangerine and vegetable fell sharply.

Jeju aims to adopt an advanced reporting system to better cater to the needs of users.
