According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) The International Society of Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions Congress (IS-MPMI Congress 2021) will be held in Jeju.

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Jeju Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that Jeju island was selected to host the event after presenting proposals jointly with the Korean Society of Plant Pathology at the IS-MPMI Congress 2016 held in Portland, Oregon, USA last month.

The island won the bid beating other candidates including Chengtu of China, representing once again that it is the optimal venue for international events.

The five-day event is scheduled to be held in July 2021 and expected to attract 1,200 attendees.

In this bi-annual congress which begun in 1982, more than 1,000 plant and microbe experts gather to share research results on plant, pathogenic microbe, and plant-symbiotic microorganism interactions. Subjects related to applied plant science such as plant productivity and plant disease control are discussed as well throughout the event.

So far, the academic event has been hosted mostly in North America and Europe. Jeju will be the host city for the first time in Korea and second time in Asia.
