Jeju Attracted 11% More MICE Events Year-on-Year

(JEJU=Newsis News) Jeju's initiative to promote the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) business as a strategic local industry has been smooth sailing this year.


The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has attracted 98 MICE events from January to the end of August, 11% up from last year's 88, according the the municipality.

During the period, the southern resort island succeeded in attracting 24 international meetings in the finance, medicine, and electric & electronic technology sectors.

Thanks to such achievement, Jeju was ranked 19th in the world, 8th in Asia, and 3rd in Korea in terms of the MICE business performance.

In June next year, the second annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will be held in Jeju Island for three days. The meeting is expected to draw around 2,000 finance ministers, governors of central banks, heads of international organizations and business men of 57 countries.

Large-scale international conferences Jeju has succeeded in attracting include the Asia-Oceanian Conference of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine 2020 and the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control 2020 which will draw around 3,000 and 2,000 global specialists respectively.

The International Conference on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 2022 and the International Society of Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions Congress 2021 (IS-MPMI Congress 2021) are expected to attract more than 1,000 participants as well.

Jeju aims to foster its exhibition industry further. As part of the effort, the provincial government plans to invest KRW 70 billion to expand exhibition facilities near the International Convention Center Jeju.
