Jeju's World Heritage Organization to Invest KRW 52 Bn in Natural Heritage and Cultural Assets

According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Jeju's organization for world heritage announced that it will invest KRW 52 billion this year to carry out 216 projects for the island's natural heritage and cultural assets.

For cultural assets designated as the World Heritage, KRW 34.4 billion will be injected to establish an integrated conservation management system and to preserve and utilize traditional cultural heritage. Through the investment, plans to preserve and transfer new cultural properties will be prepared.

In addition, the organization will implement 158 projects which involves national events and tourism promotion. It will organize various events including the World Natural Heritage Global Forum commemorating the 10th anniversary of the World Natural Heritage Site designation and promote the 'Jeju Visit Year' campaign.

A total of KRW 6 billion will be allocated for the research on Hallasan, the highest mountain in South Korea. The research work includes 6 ecosystem conservation projects, 9 biological resources conservation projects, 6 forest conservation projects, and 2 species conservation projects.

KRW 11.6 billion is to be invested for the management of the Hallasan National Park. 31 projects will be implemented including the establishment of reservation management system for the Hallasan mountain to draw up a long-term plan to preserve Hallasan, the world's only four international protected areas.
