(JEJU=Newsis News) Jeju Special Self-Governing Province confirmed it will invest KRW 3.176 billion in 125 businesses in 3 disaster and safety management industries this year, at a safety management committee of 23 organizations held Feb. 28.
On the same day, the province selected 20 projects to be carried out under 5 strategic initiatives for safety policies focused on prevention, movements to promote a culture of safe practices led by local residents, year-round safety inspections and systematic support for recovery efforts, etc., to attain the 3 goals of establishing a comprehensive disaster and safety system, making safety culture part of their daily activities, and making the island province a safer place to live.
When a disaster occurs, 22 local disaster management supervisory institutions and 13 governmental divisions will participate in the recovery efforts led by the province governor.
According to the head of the province's safety management department, "Recently there has been frequent occurrences of natural disasters due to climate change, as well as man-made disasters due to the increase in population, number of tourists, vehicles and buildings," adding, "the province will work to make policies that establish a culture of safety in the daily lives of Jeju islanders.
