According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) An incentive tour group that consists of the members of a Malaysian company will visit Jeju, and this will be the first visit by an incentive tour group from the country since the launch of a direct route between Jeju and Malaysia.

The Jeju government announced on March 6 that Pacific Food Product, a Malaysian food company, will send its first incentive tour group to Jeju. The group, which is composed of 30 or so employees of the company, will land on the island on March 27.

The group will travel via AirAsia X, which launched a direct route between Jeju and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last December.

The company will send additional incentive tour groups on March 31, April 14 and 21, May 5 and 12, and July 21. The first group will stay in Jeju for five days, during which they will visit famous attractions and experience Jeju’s traditional and culinary culture.

The provincial government expects that the new direct route will contribute to the growth of the Malaysian incentive tour market. AirAsia X is a subsidiary of AirAsia, which is one of the largest low-cost airlines in Asia.

Jeju is also expecting a visit by a 240-member incentive tour group from the 4 Orange Group from March 8 to 10, 2018. The company, which is one of the biggest paint manufacturers in Vietnam, sent 1,148 employees for an incentive tour in March 2015. It plans to send small- to medium-sized incentive tour groups to the island in the future.

The Jeju Provincial Government and the Jeju Convention Bureau attribute the recent surge of incentive tour groups to the overseas marketing efforts that were made over the years including a separate booth for Jeju during the ASEAN MICE Conference, participating in MICE roadshows in the Asia-Pacific region, and inviting buyers from Southeast Asia and other areas during the Jeju MICE EXPO.

The government and the bureau will ensure that all tour groups are satisfied with their stay in the island by offering administrative and financial assistance while encouraging them to visit traditional markets and folk villages so that the local economy can benefit from their visit.

Mr. Yang Gi-cheol, the head of the Tourism Office of the Jeju Provincial Government, said: “The MICE sector is leading the diversification of the tourism market as well as the qualitative growth of tourism in Jeju.” He added: “We will implement more aggressive marketing efforts for the Asia-Pacific region.”
