On April 20, Nexen Tech's (073070) subsidiary company NDM and U.S. 3D mapping company CARMERA announced the completion of the primary mapping work for a precision map in Jeju.

Last January, NDM secured CARMERA's technology through a MOU with autonomous navigation platform company UMO. Since then, CARMERA's Mobile Mapping System (MMS) has been implemented in Korea, to collect road data in cooperation with and Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC). MMS is a state-of-the-art 3D spatial information research system that utilizes a high-performance laser scanner device, LiDAR, to obtain information on roads and surrounding facilities.

NDM covered about 20km of roads to collect data and its total scanning capacity is about 30 GB. The company plans to accelerate the precision mapping project in Jeju based on the primary data collection.

CARMERA's MMS has an error range of 3cm, making the system highly competitive in precision mapping. Last year, the company started a project with New York City to create a 3D precision map of the city, and is using its know-how to collect road data in Jeju in collaboration with NDM.

On May 2, NDM will present the primary collection of road data at the "5th Electric Vehicle Expo" to be held at the Jeju International Convention Center.
