According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) There is a new database containing information about Jeju's various species.

On April 25, Jeju Province and Jeju Technopark (JTP) announced they have opened a "Jeju Species Complete Database Platform" which contains information and patents on natural resources, as well as information on raw materials for cosmetics.

This platform contains various information such as specimen information, specimen photographs, patent data, industrial material, etc. of biological resources secured by Jeju Biodiversity Research Institute under JTP.

Specifically, the list includes a total of 8,480 different kinds of species including those from the Lists of Species in the Jeju Area - vascular plant list, vertebrates list, insects and fungi list - published in 2016. More than 300 species of Jeju bio-resources were registered in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Directory (ICID).

The platform also includes papers on Jeju's natural resources and information on industrialized materials.

The "Jeju Species Complete Database Platform" can be found at http://jbridb.jejutp.or.kr.

Kim Chang-sook, director of the biodiversity research institute, said, "We will establish a platform to secure the sovereignty of Jeju's biological resources in response to the Nagoya Protocol (ABS) by establishing an integrated platform for bio-resources in Jeju and uploading data continuously."

Kim expects the platform will be actively used in Jeju's bio-resource conservation and Fourth Industrial Revolution research utilizing high value-added biomass resources.
