According to Yonhap News,

(SEOGWIPO=Yonhap News) On May 2, Jeju held 5th International Electric Vehicle Expo at the Jeju International Conference Center.

At the opening ceremony, Acting Jeju Governor Jeon Seong-tae remarked, "The theme of this Expo is "Jeju, a clean, zero carbon island" that will be realized via new e-mobility based on electric vehicles and renewable energy. We promise to work to make Jeju a net-zero carbon island until our 2030 goal."

Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated in a video message for the opening ceremony, "I was deeply inspired by Jeju's 2030 zero-carbon initiative and believe that if cars can be fueled by the wind and energy from the sun, it will play a crucial part in reversing climate change and the particulate matter in our air. Also, Jeju will become a success case not only in Korea, but globally."

Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution Chairman Jang Byeong-gyu stated at the "Fourth industrial revolution, future of automobiles and Jeju island" presentation, "Jeju is the ideal location to bring the vision of electric mobility to life."

Jang continued, "With the nation's highest share of EVs, known for its clean environment, abundant green energy resources, frequent car rentals and 730 electric chargers, Jeju will play a central role as a test bed for EVs."

The expo also featured 40 conference sessions including "Electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles, "Renewable Energy," ICESI 2018, The 2nd International Forum for Self-propelled Electric Vehicles, The 3rd Electric Vehicle International Standard Forum and the EVuff Forum.
